The Equality Act 2010 places a duty on private hire drivers to carry guide dogs and other assistance dogs at no extra cost. Guide dogs and other assistance dogs can not be refused on religious grounds.
Drivers that cannot carry assistance dogs must carry a certificate of exemption, issued by the local authority, which confirms they have permission to refuse on medical grounds.
